It has been a year since the beginning of the pandemic. And, it has been two years since I moved to Boracay and since I last visited a decent salon. I believe it is high time to get a hair makeover on Boracay.

Getting Grey Early

Just like most male members of our family, I started getting strands of grey hair early. If my memory serves me right, I first noticed them in my late twenties. As a quick solution, I would buy a hair dye off the shelf. Then, I would ask my brother to color my hair for me to save me the trouble.

However, in the latter part of last year, I noticed more grey hair than usual. I do not know if it is the pandemic but I have never had this many grey hair in my entire life ever. Since I could not go visit my brother in Pangasinan because of travel restrictions, I went to get my hair dyed in a salon nearby. It was just a regular hair service. Nothing special really. That is why, after two weeks, I noticed my grey hair becoming visible again. I decided to just stop dying my hair and getting a haircut altogether.

I have always been fascinated by the elves of The Lord Of The Rings and the Mother of Dragons of Game Of Thrones. I thought it must be cool and ethereal even to sport platinum grey hair. So, last month, I bought a silver hair wax and tried it on. It did not really do the job well. It looked good on photo but in reality it looked and felt like I just poured chalk dust on my head.

First Time To Get A Hair Makeover On Boracay

When asked about what color to use, I told them, “Let us be crazy.” I told them about my fascination for platinum grey hair. They checked my hair. Last Tuesday, I was invited by New Summit Colors Distribution for a hair makeover. Their office is located near the International Airport which is a bit too far from where I live quite honestly. I live in Cubao and going to Paranaque on a weekday (morning) can be a pain in the rear.

Fortunately, I had a meeting in Sucat, Paranaque that morning. I was also allowed by New Summit to arrive later than the 10 AM call time. I was done with my meeting by 11:30 AM. It was raining that day so traffic was heavier than usual. After being stuck in traffic for almost an hour, I finally got to the venue by 12:45 PM.

It was not my first time to get a hair makeover. I have done gigs before for Frank Provost and Jesi Mendez to name a few. That is why I was excited about how my new do would turn out.

I arrived lunch time. Talk about perfect timing. While waiting for my hair technician to start his wonders on me, Me-an Clemente of www.yogoandcream.com and I had lunch. Me-an arrived fifteen minutes earlier. The rest was done with lunch. As they say, ‘Tummy First’. Priorities… Priorities… Priorities… LOL.

Ever since I started travel blogging, my trips to the hair salon have become less and less. It has been two years since I left the corporate setting and two years of not being bound by any dress code. Did you know that the last time I had a hair cut was more than a year ago? Lol.

One week prior to this hair makeover session, I was asked by New Summit about my hair’s history and if I had any pegs in mind. I searched far and wide for that perfect ‘Travel Blogger Look’ (if there is such a thing). Below were my three choices. Yes, I even considered donning a Targaryen look.

I also did a poll on Facebook if I should get a haircut already or not. The response was not a resounding and overwhelming ‘Yes, get a haircut already’. Hence, given the nature of what I do now, I believe it is best to keep it long and neat. I can always cut my hair anytime anyway.

My hair makeover session started at about 3 PM and ended at a little past 7 PM. I think Jhapz forgot to give me some hair care tips. I would have wanted though to have a proper hair treatment after the coloring session but I guess there was not enough time to do the procedure.

I got home late, close to 10 in the evening. Thanks to the horrendous traffic along mighty EDSA. I did not wash my hair in the shower that night.

The next day, lo and behold, the hair color became even more vibrant.

Honestly, I was a bit worried that I did not get a proper hair treatment after the hair makeover session. As I said, it was not my first time to get a hair makeover. I have done modeling gigs in the past and it was either I would get a proper hair treatment after the hair makeover session (same day or was asked to return days later) or would be given hair treatment products to use at home.

In fairness to Revlon, I feel that my hair was not subjected to the usual stress of hair coloring. Thanks to the hyaluronic acid content of Revlonissimo Colorsmetique Creme Gel Colour. As a skin care addict myself, I am quite familiar with the moisturizing properties of this ingredient.

It is probably the most affordable decent facial treatment in the metro. No frills. Also, it includes two (2) free checkup.

Let’s Face It’s Facial Cleaning starts with a facial massage using a mild lotion-like cleanser.

It is so soothing that a blogger such as myself could easily fall asleep and forget to take photos.

Then, the face is subjected to two types of rotating brushes to gently exfoliate dead cells.

To prep the face for the steamer, a moisturizing agent is gently massaged onto the skin.

Eye patches are then placed to protect the sensitive eye area from the heat of the steamer. The face is left under the steamer for about ten (10) minutes.

After the steamer, a vacuum is used to suck whatever debris that may have been stuck to unclog the pores.

Then, it is time for pricking to remove whiteheads and blackheads.

After pricking, a mesh is placed on the face. The laser then helps to close the pores.

An antibiotic is applied onto the face to help prevent infection.

To cap it off, a sunblock is applied to protect the skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

It is recommended to avoid wetting the face with water or sweat in the next twelve (12) hours.

The whole procedure takes no more than forty-five minutes.

I would like to share with you one of my greatest finds: Dr. Labella Intensive Whitening Waterfull Toner. Watch the full vlog on my youtube channel here.

I have been using this wonderful toner for about a month now. So far so good! Just clear and moisturized face. It has helped me get rid of the dark spots on my face. Thanks to its main ingredient Glutathione. Also, it has Hyaluronic Acid or Sodium Hyaluronate, probably one of the best moisturizing ingredients that I know. Each molecule holds up to 10 times its weight in water. This Korean-made toner comes in a premium looking 150 ml bottle.

It is in liquid form, translucent and smells good. After washing, I apply it on my face using a cotton ball, gently smoothing it from the center out. I do not use a moisturizer anymore after using the toner. I just put on a sunblock before going out and about.
