This is part one of my travel vlog about my recent visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to have a quick meeting and, of course, to see, taste and feel what Kuala Lumpur has to offer. The last time I visited Kuala Lumpur was in 2016 to attend a major meeting of the company that I used to work for and I did not have the opportunity to experience what they call the country that is ‘Truly Asia’, Malaysia.

Two years ago I was in this same spot to attend a major meeting. Little did I know that that meeting was my last one with the company I used to work for because 3 months later I received a letter of redundancy. A lot of self-discovery and reinvention, to better put it, happened after that. Fast forward to 2018, I am back to traveling and this time it is for the very essence of traveling, i.e., discovering places not just getting to them, meeting people not just faces and sharing not just seeing what is good about that travel destination. Here is a short video featuring my visit to the Las Pinas Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area or LPPCHEA during the media familiarization tour initiated by the Department Of Tourism last January 30, 2018.

LPPCHEA is a 175-hectare secluded area off Manila Bay. It comprises two islands: Long Island and Freedom Island. LPPCHEA serves as a sanctuary to over eighty (80) species of birds, migratory and resident. It has a 36-hectare mangrove forest, a collection of indigenous plants and trees, coastal lagoon and beach area.

LPPCHEA was declared as a critical habitat on April 22, 2007 by Presidential Proclamation No. 1412 and was included in the list of Ramsar’s Wetlands of International Importance on March 15, 2013.

The Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance) and The Wild Bird Club of the Philippines have been important partners of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in supporting and protecting LPPCHEA, the last mangrove island in southern Manila Bay.

LPPCHEA is a protected area.  If you are interested in visiting the bird sanctuary, contact the Conservation and Development Division of the DENR at +632-435-2509 or the Manila Bay Environmental Management Project in Metro Manila at +632-435-2410.

If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of these two questions, then you better pay attention.

A good friend, Candice Silerio, has a family business in Caramoan, Casita Mia Bed and Breakfast. Tucked in the small town of Ili Centro, Caramoan, Casita Mia is a beautiful bed and breakfast with modern amenities and welcoming Filipino hospitality.

Caramaoan, located at the tip of the Caramoan  Peninsula, is a first class municipality in the province of Camarines Sur, Bicol. It has a population of not more than 50,000 people.

Tourist destinations include the Caramoan National Park, The Centro and Gota Beach. There are at least 10 must-see islands in Caramoan, Activities include snorkeling, rock climbing, trekking, camping and sunbathing on the powdery white sand. Remember to wear sunscreen!

Caramoan has also been a favorite site for several editions of the famous reality TV show, Survivor.

There are two options to get to Caramoan.

Option 1:

Take an hour flight from Manila to Naga, one-hour land trip from Naga to Sabang Port, two-hour boat trip from Sabang Port to Guijalo Port and a ten-minute land trip from Guijalo Port to Casita Mia Bed and Breakfast.

Option 2:

Take a twelve-hour bus ride from Cubao to Caramoan via Raymond Bus and then a ten-minute land trip Casita Mia Bed and Breakfast from the bus terminal. Long but scenic road trip indeed!
