Sharp in Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023. Exhibiting advanced energy-related technologies and in-vehicle solutions that contribute to carbon neutrality, Sharp Corporation (Sharp) will participate in CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, to be held from January 5 to 8, 2023. 1. The latest New Energy technologies that contribute to carbon neutrality

Sharp will unveil for the first time outside of Japan the LC-LH (Liquid and Crystal Light Harvesting), an indoor photovoltaic device developed by integrating dye-sensitized solar cells and the company’s long-cultivated LCD technology. Sharp will also exhibit perovskite solar cells, which are attracting attention as the next generation of solar cells. Because they are thin, lightweight, and flexible, they are expected to contribute to even wider use of solar power.

2. Advanced Automotive devices that support safe and environmentally conscious driving

Sharp will introduce the Passenger Information Display utilizing viewing angle control. By controlling the viewing angle, the driver will not be able to see the display image while driving so they can concentrate on driving. Sharp will also exhibit a prototype of a Driver Monitoring System. A camera module integrated with the display keeps an eye on the driver. In addition, Sharp will show a compound photovoltaic module with the world’s highest*² conversion efficiency, which is expected to be installed on vehicles such as EVs, as well as used in aerospace and aviation applications.

3. Various devices and head-mounted displays (HMD) for AR/VR

Sharp will exhibit for the first time an ultra-lightweight HMD prototype for VR equipped with its latest devices, such as an ultra-high-resolution display, ultra-high-speed autofocus camera, and ultra-compact proximity sensor. Sharp will also demonstrate the world’s thinnest*³ ultra-compact camera module, a distance sensor that helps HMD wearers avoid collisions with people and objects, and other AR/VR related devices that provide users with a realistic sense of being immersed in images safely and more comfortably.

4. Flagship AQUOS XLED TV model for the global market

Sharp will exhibit the flagship AQUOS XLED TV model for the global market. Visitors can experience a new generation of images with outstanding brightness and color expression created by mini LED backlighting and quantum-dot technology. In addition, Sharp will unveil a prototype of one of the world’s largest*⁴ 120-inch model*⁵ for the first time.

On this 110^th anniversary year, Sharp has introduced a new management system to realize transformation to re-emphasize on ESG and raise its social value and revitalize its brand for sustainable growth.

Management emphasizing on ESG will be carried out under four major policies: 1) Further strengthen healthcare related business, 2) Contribution to carbon neutral, 3) Management based on HITO (people), and 4) True global company.

(1) Further strengthen healthcare related business

Sharp will introduce products, services, and solutions centering preventive care, such as by strengthening sensing functions installed in its home appliances, TVs and mobile devices, developing unique healthcare related sensors, and creating new healthcare related devices, along with carrying out partnership and M&A(Mergers & Acquisition) aggressively. This way, a system will be formed that measures people’s health related data naturally in various scenes and provide a solution optimum for each individual. Eventually, Sharp aims to realize people to lead a self-directing healthy living.

(2) Contribution to carbon neutral

Sharp will contribute to carbon neutral by reducing its GHG(Greenhouse Gas) emission and expanding renewable energy in society. Under its long-term environmental vision “Sharp Eco Vision 2050”, Sharp declares to realize net zero emission of GHG emission through its activities. As a mid-term target, Sharp aims to reduce 60% GHG emission by 2035. To realize this target, Sharp will further expand its energy solution business by developing business in aerospace and automotive appliances, expand PPA(Power Purchase Agreement) business, and accelerate research of latest technology solar cells such as perovskite for practical use. By such means, by 2030, Sharp expects to contribute in reduction of GHG emission equal to approximately 12 times emission of its in-house activity, and contribute to carbon neutrality of society.

(3) Management based on HITO (people)

Personnel system will be further innovated based on four perspectives: Hybrid personnel with multiple professions, Innovation-cultivating environment, Talent-based optimum personnel stationing, and Opportunity for growth provided to excellent members. The initials spell out HITO, meaning “people” in Japanese.

Specifically, performance-based personnel system to support young talents, attractive work treatment system to gather professional personnel, fulfilled structure to support growth of personnel, and rejuvenating and speed-up of decision process will be executed to cultivate and young and spirited corporate culture.

(4) True Global Company

Sharp aims to expand global business by strengthening sales strategy in each region and promote management innovation.
