I must admit that I am not getting any younger. The last time I checked, I saw white nose hairs already. Just recently, too, I started seeing more hair than usual trapped in the drain of my shower. I am starting to worry about hair loss. Panic attack. Is this middle age crisis? What is happening? Why am I losing hair?

What Leads to Hair Loss?

So, I started researching online. Apparently, hair loss is often hereditary. Poor nutrition may lead to hair thinning. Major illnesses, surgeries or traumatic events and hormonal changes may cause temporary hair loss, too.

Life changing events such as death in the family, extreme weight loss or a high fever may trigger hair loss. Certain hairstyles that put pressure on the hair follicles may result to hair loss, too. Read more about it here.

Among the many factors mentioned above, the culprit to my sudden hair loss could only be poor nutrition and weight loss. Hoping. Now that I have reached my desired weight, I guess I need to load up on protein-rich meals soon. I used to weigh 165 lbs. I lost 15 lbs already in 12 months. And, I am aiming to lose 5 to 10 lbs more in the next 12 months for health and vanity purposes.

For extreme cases of hair loss, there are over-the-counter medications available but be aware of their side effects such as low libido, erectile dysfunction, etc.  Read more about it here. I would also suggest a visit to a dermatologist to properly assess the situation.

My Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion Review

Coincidentally, two months or so ago, I got lucky to receive three bottles of NOVUHAIR® TOPICAL SCALP LOTION to try and review. Currently, I am down to my third and last bottle.

After two months of not so consistent and continued use, lo and behold, I am seeing new hair growth. I also noticed a decrease in the amount of hair clogging my drain.

What Is In The Bottle?

So what is in this bottle of goodness anyway? NOVUHAIR® TOPICAL SCALP LOTION consists of hair growth stimulators with blood circulation enhancers such as Malunggay, Ginger, Ginseng, Aloe Vera, Virgin Coconut Oil, Indian Pennywort, Indian Gooseberry, black pepper, Biotin (Vitamin H), Vitamin B5,  Shikakai, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Safflower, Lavender, Rosemary, Propanediol, Natural Ethyl Alcohol and distilled water.

From www.novuhair.com:

NOVUHAIR® TOPICAL SCALP LOTION is a unique combination of 19 natural ingredients and essential oils formulated to stop hair loss, proudly Philippine-made, developed by expert scientists and researchers, clinically proven safe and effective, produced in accordance to the highest quality specifications of the industry, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registered, certified Halal by the Islamic Da’wah Council of the Philippines, Inc. (IDCP) and 100% compliant to the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive (ACD).

As I said, I have not been compliant to the product’s recommended usage. But when I am, I use it twice a day, in the morning after shower and before bedtime (after shower). I spray it on the part of my head where I think I should have more hair and massage it for less than five minutes. I do it while watching TV.  It has a distinct smell so it would take some getting used to. Stay away from white pillows and be sure to wear that white undershirt first before putting on the scalp lotion. It has a minty feeling on the scalp. Overall, it gives me a sense of just leaving a relaxing spa.

  1. I tried it but bought only one bottle because it is a bit expensive. I didn’t get the positive result that it promised. Maybe one bottle is not enough, hehehe.

  2. Hi Joel. You were happy with Novuhair as of Sept 17, when you wrote your article.
    I am just curious –
    1. Did you continue using Novuhair? If not, why?
    2. Are you still a believer in this product, 3 months later? Why or why not?

  3. Hello, quite late to the party here. I don’t know about my shower drain but I do have a vibrant family history of bald people, which kind of scared me when I noticed my hair visibly thinning and showing more scalp. Do you have a family history of baldness as well? And how’s your experience so far if you still use Novuhair? I’m trying it out now as well, just the lotion, but given that my hair loss seems to have been caused by genetics and not metabolism…well, we shall see. 😀

  4. If you are in a tight budget and you’re already bald, don’t buy the trio (shampoo + conditioner + scalp lotion). Just buy the “shampoo + scalp lotion”.
