HOW TO GET TO BATU CAVES, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

When I visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in January this year, I missed Batu Caves. Batu Caves is one of the most popular Hindu Shrines outside India. It is located in the northern part of Kuala Lumpur.

Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I already paid for the day tour online while in Manila. A city tour was scheduled in the morning and Batu Caves in the afternoon. A separate blog post about my Kuala Lumpur City Tour will be published soon (I hope, lol). My flight back to Manila was in the evening and I had to be at the airport by say about 7 PM.

By noon, the city tour was done and we were on our way back to the tour operator’s headquarters to switch vans and guides for Batu Caves. During the switch, I grabbed a quick lunch at a nearby eatery. After lunch, I boarded the van with other travelers. I was so excited because it would be my first #dronescapade outside the country.

Unknown to me and to my companions in the van, the tour included three stops before Batu Caves, being the last stop. After the first stop, the tour guide approached me and told me that I might miss my flight to Manila should I proceed any further with the tour. So they left me at the nearest train station to catch a trip back to KL Sentral and then to the KL International Airport unfortunately.

I did not know any better but had I known, I could have just taken the bus & train to Batu Caves from KL Sentral Train Station and not booked that day tour in the first place.

In March 2018, I traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia. My flight back to Manila had a long lay-over in Kuala Lumpur. I grabbed the opportunity to finally fly my drone in Batu Caves. I did not book a van for a day tour anymore. I did a DIY tour of Batu Caves and other places of interest in Kuala Lumpur. #solotravels

There were no trains available that would take me from KL Sentral to Batu Caves. Apparently, a construction of the railway directly connecting KL Sentral and Batu Caves was (and still is) ongoing. Hence, I took the one-hour bus ride compliments of Rapid KL Bus from KL Sentral to Sentul Train Station instead. At the Sentul Station, I took the train to Batu Caves (only four stations away) for a meager 3 Malaysian Ringgit (approximately Php 40).

From the Batu Caves Train Station, the Batu Caves Shrine is a mere 10-minute walk. Devotees may buy flowers to serve as offering from a number of vendors just outside the gate of Batu Caves.

I arrived at the shrine’s parking lot before sunrise and was allowed to fly my drone by the park’s security on duty. Personally, I really prefer flying outside peak hours to avoid big crowds. I also kept my distance to avoid getting in the way of a huge flock of pigeons in the area.

After flying my drone, it was time to climb 272 steps to get to Batu Caves. Batu Caves is located about 100 meters above ground. At the foot of the staircase is the the world’s tallest statue of Murugan, a Hindu deity.

Monkeys darted and congregated on the steps on the way up. I was cautioned by one of the visitors to be very careful and to keep an eye on my mobile phone and other belongings. The monkeys are notorious for “stealing” the visitor’s belongings just out of curiosity.

Inside Batu Caves is a temple cave featuring various Hindu shrines and characters. The interior is so huge. It looked like a giant carved a cathedral out of the belly of the mountain.

After taking photos and being mesmerized by the sheer grandeur of the Batu Caves Shrine, it was time to leave and catch the next bus and train to the city. People were also starting to pour in.

Before leaving the shrine, I had a quick snack at an eatery inside the park. I had my favorite LiqaLic by MFruits and tried Black Currant Fruit Drink by Ribena. Click here to know more about how much I love MFruits’ LiqaLic.

Me with fellow male blogger friends doing a tableau by the beach of Porto Laiya in Laiya, San Juan, Batangas

Last month, I got to spend a day with blogger friends in Porto Laiya, another prestige project from the developer of Mount Malaraya Golf & Country Club– considered as one of the top golf courses in the world. Porto Laiya is a private residential and beach resort community in Brgy. Ibabao, Laiya, San Juan, Batangas.

Below is a video clip that I prepared and posted on my Facebook Page featuring Porto Laiya:

For high definition, view this Youtube post:

The pick-up time was six am on a weekday in McDonald’s EDSA-Buendia branch in Makati City. I live in Cubao and for me to make it on time, I needed to be on the road by 5 AM to avoid the rush hour traffic to the Central Business District of Metro Manila. I have not had any proper sleep after long hours of editing a number of video projects and was feeling under the weather.

At 5 AM, I was still in bed and messaged my blogger friend Erica Poyauan of www.thegirlwiththemujihat.com if she was already on her way. She said she was having second thoughts because she, too, was feeling sick. We checked online again to find out more about Porto Laiya. In no time, I was in the shower preparing for another day of swimming, snorkeling and basking in the sun! Erica and I agreed that we should just go and enjoy! By six in the morning, I was already drinking coffee and had just finished my Sausage McMuffin in McDonald’s EDSA-Buendia branch while Erica… well… was nowhere in sight. She was still on her way, stuck in a horrendous traffic somewhere. She made it in the nick of time nonetheless.

By 7:30-ish in the morning, I was already inside the Active Group‘s van plying EDSA with the other bloggers and real estate agents. I rode shotgun with my backpack of equipment and drone. Hence, I pretty much was quiet and slept through the whole three-hour or so road trip.

It was a smooth and easy ride to Batangas. As we rolled towards Porto Laiya, I could not help my excitement to build up because of the Porto Laiya road signs that darted the road side starting from the STAR Tollway Ibaan Exit up to Porto Laiya’s Main Gate.

Porto Laiya is a 37-hectare piece of land comprised of commercial and residential lots.
Lot sizes range from 264 sqm to 508 sqm. The Phase I residential development of Porto Laiya has a total of 359 lots with sizes ranging from 240 sqm to 478 sqm. Phase II has 304 lots with sizes ranging from 214 to 703 sqm.
Lot prices range from Php 8,400 per sqm to Php 15,000 per sqm. The last remaining commercial/residential lot is 1, 354 sqm at Php 15,000 per sqm. Prices may change without prior notice.

Upon arrival at the guardhouse, I could not help but be amazed by the Filipino-inspired contemporary international design of the property. I was in awe more so when we reached Tamarind Cove to register. Tamarind Cove is a privately-held club inside Porto Laiya.

The last time I did a headstand was more than 2 years ago. I was so engrossed with work that I forgot to take care of myself, gained a lot of weight and became sedentary. Only to realize that I am more important than my job after getting a redundancy notice. My #roadtofitness does not only mean physical. It is more personal as I regain my confidence and belief in my capabilities and continue to search for my life's purrpose. Porto Laiya has a 400-meter long beach.

And then it was time to go out into the sea for snorkeling. Off the beach of Porto Laiya is a coral sanctuary. How convenient is that for Porto Laiya residents?

In no time, everyone got on the bamboo raft except me. I needed to fly my drone and take some aerial footage for my vlog. By the time I was done, my friends were already at sea. The daredevil in me said, “I cannot not be on that raft and miss seeing the corals of Laiya!” So I gathered all my strength, grabbed my action camera, put on my goggles, and swam towards the boat. Halfway, I looked into the horizon and saw the still small image of the boat and my friends. With the strong current, I thought I would not be able to make it. The boat was just too far. I looked back at the beach and did some mental calculations. If I go back, I would still swim the same distance, be dead tired and would spend the whole afternoon regretting not being able to see the Laiya reefs teaming with marine life. Darn, I would rather be tired and happy than be tired and sad. So for dear life, I paddled and swam. From a distance, I could already hear my friends cheering me on. It felt like I was in a swimming competition. LOL. “Oh goodness, my mom would kill me”, I thought. Thanks to my fellow blogger, Bette Medina for recording the whole thing on video.

Upon reaching the boat, my friends were ecstatic. Erica was so nervous and even thought that I could not make it. I, myself, could not believe that I made it. LOL. Surprisingly, I did not feel exhausted at all after that dash of a swim. Thanks to the adrenaline rush. We wasted no time and spent the rest of the afternoon at sea communing with nature.

PRESS RELEASE

Global smartphone brand Vivo has revealed its all-new sleek and stylish V9 flagship unit at the City of Dreams Manila in a summer-themed unveiling that was attended by over 200 members of the press and other guests.

Vivo welcomed its guests late Thursday afternoon at the Wave, a contemporary poolside deck, restaurant, and bar so they can experience the V9 and take selfies and photos with the sunset as their backdrop. Vivo then picked one lucky and creative photo posted on Instagram to win a V9 unit.

Vivo executives led by Brand Director Annie Lim answered some of the questions of the media during the V9 press launch.

The program continued at the City of Dreams Grand Ballroom with Myx VJ Ai dela Cruz as the host. They were formally welcomed by Vivo Brand Director Annie Lim who recapped the smartphone company’s feats in the Philippines. Since it entered the Philippine market in 2016, Vivo has been steadily rising to become the country’s top three brand with over 5,200 stores and 1.5 million users nationwide.

Vivo’s Jomari Morales followed Lim’s remarks by presenting all the goods on the V9. She highlighted the Vivo V9’s 90% screen-to-body ratio, the 24-megapixel selfie camera and 16MP+5MP dual read camera, and the AI-powered photography for a “perfect view” and a “perfect shot.”

Morales also presented the Vivo V9’s improved game mode that would enable users to take calls or open other apps without pausing the gaming applications or play without any interruptions.

After her presentation, Vivo’s Junior Brand Manager Christian Jocson revealed that anyone can enjoy a V9 for a “perfect” price of Php17,990 with pre-orders beginning on March 26 until April 2.

Lim, Morales, Jocson, and Xian Gana from Vivo then answered the media’s questions during the Q&A.

Fresh faces of Vivo

Vivo also welcomed its newest endorsers, up-and-coming actors Edward Barber and Ivan Dorschner.

Barber is the onscreen partner of young actress Maymay Entrata who also joined the event. Entrata was the first who joined Vivo in September 2017 during the launch of the V7+. His endorsement deal with Vivo is something MayWard fans have been patiently waiting for since the pair already worked together for the smartphone brand during their first Making Mega shoot in Germany last year.

Dorschner, meanwhile, charmed the press with his good looks and charisma. He was one of Kuya’s guests in Pinoy Big Brother in 2010. Since then, he became one of GMA Network’s top leading men after starring alongside young actress and fellow Vivo endorser Barbie Forteza in the primetime series “Meant To Be.”

Aside from the launch of the new flagship smartphone V9,Vivo also introduced its newest endorsers, Ivan Dorschner and Edward Barber.

KWIKSET ROADSHOW 2018 SHOWS HOW KWIKSET IS MADE FOR THE WORLD YOU LIVE IN

Kwikset has always been a part of our household for as long as I can remember. I have always thought that Kwikset was a local brand. I mean why call it Kwikset rather than Quickset, right?

It was only when I attended Kwikset’s Roadshow last March 15, 2018 at the Blue Leaf Filipinas that I learned about Kwikset being the number one selling U.S. lock brand.

I arrived an hour before the start of the roadshow. That is why most of the photos shown here would lack a lot of people in it. LOL. The event was attended by media and potential customers and dealers. I met Elaine Bersamin, Sales Director, at the reception area and told me to go around first while waiting for the event to start. She also offered to safekeep my drone for my convenience.

Dave Albert, Vice President and Managing Director of APAC Spectrum Brands Inc., welcomed everyone and gave a brief history of Kwikset. He said that Kwikset is the largest tubular lock manufacturer in the world with a production output of 250,000 door locks per day. They have manufacturing sites in China, Mexico, the United States of America and the Philippines. Kwikset’s manufacturing site in the Philippines is located in Subic, Olongapo City, Zambales employing close to 5000 Filipinos.

Kwikset, the pioneer in residential locks with a tubular design, was launched in 1946 by Adolf Schoepe and Karl Rhinehart. It was named Kwikset to highlight its speedy installation. In the Philippines, Kwikset has been commercially available since the 1980s.

Kevin Sander, International Brand Manager, discussed Kwikset’s brand premise and promise that is “Made for the world you live in.” And during Kwikset’s Roadshow, we witnessed firsthand how durable, innovative, stylish and secure Kwikset really is.

We were divided into small groups and each group was made to visit three stations in rotation where each of Kwikset’s brand promises of Durability, Innovation and Style were showcased. The groups then reconvened for the fourth brand promise of Security.

Durability for the world you live in

Sander showed us how Kwikset locks are strong, secure and reliable.

Sander also shared that every one of their products is put through rigorous third party testing and certified to meet or exceed both ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and BHMA (Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association) standards. Innovation for the world you live in

We then moved to the next station where we learned about Kwikset’s dedication to research and development. Kwikset has innovative locks powered by technology that not only changes how their locks work but more importantly provides convenient features that can change how people live.

Kwikset Electronic Locks

Highlighted during the event was Kwikset Electronic Locks which are locks operated by an electronic touchscreen or keypad and have a back-up keyway. Electronic Locks lock and open using an access code which can be personalized. For more information about Kwikset Electronic Locks, click here.

I left the roadshow with a brand new appreciation for Kwikset. I learned that a lock is not always a lock. Only Kwikset can guarantee security and style for life.

PULLMAN KL BANGSAR HOTEL IS NOT JUST A BUSINESS HOTEL

Last month, I visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend a meeting with a prospective client. Aside from blogging, I do marketing and business development consultancy work for a number of multinational companies.

After confirming the meeting dates with the client, I immediately contacted my fellow travel blogger Erica Poyauan to help me find a decent and affordable accommodation that should be near the meeting venue, i.e., the Pullman KL Bangsar Hotel. Fortunately, Erica was able to book a deluxe room for me at the same hotel at very friendly rates. I only paid USD 71 per night. That was a total bargain for a five-star hotel accommodation.

It was my second visit to the Pullman KL Bangsar Hotel. The last time was two years ago to attend a major conference conducted by the company I used to work for and I had a good experience then so I was pretty excited to go back. On both occasions, too, I saw groups and groups of tourists billeted in the hotel.

Pullman KL Bangsar Hotel is not just a business hotel. It offers amenities that are conducive to tourists alike. The hotel is strategically located in the center of the commercial and entertainment hub of Bangsar. It is only 5 minutes away from Mid Valley Mega Mall, a shopping destination. It is easily accessible to all major parts of the city via the Kerinchi Light Rapid Transit train and KL Sentral Station- KLIA Express Train.

Pullman KL Bangsar Hotel has 513 rooms and suites. It offers the following amenities:

  • Internet access in the room (WiFi and wired)
  • Complimentary mineral water in the room
  • Iron and ironing board available in the room
  • Safety deposit box
  • Minibar
  • iPod docks
  • TV with cable channels
  • Free accommodation and breakfast for up to 1 child under 12 years old sharing the parents room (by using existing bedding, or if room is large enough, a crib or a roll away bed)
  • 24-hour room service
  • Free Wifi in public areas
  • Free shuttle to KL Sentral
  • Access to the fitness center
  • Access to the outdoor pool
  • Free self parking
  • Designated smoking areas
  • Executive lounge access extended to children

The room I stayed in was spacious and clean. It had an urban and modern interior design. Everything in the room smelled new and fresh from the linens to the towels. The air conditioning was functioning properly, too.

HIT OR MISS? | P 245 FACIAL CLEANING BY LET’S FACE IT

VERDICT: HIT

Facial Cleaning by Let’s Face It for only P245.00 is definitely a hit.

Na-hit lahat ni ate yung mga whiteheads ko. Lol. Wala syang sinanto sa pag-prick!

It is probably the most affordable decent facial treatment in the metro. No frills. Also, it includes two (2) free checkup.

Let’s Face It’s Facial Cleaning starts with a facial massage using a mild lotion-like cleanser.

It is so soothing that a blogger such as myself could easily fall asleep and forget to take photos.

A facial brush helps in skin exfoliation.

Then, the face is subjected to two types of rotating brushes to gently exfoliate dead cells.

The skin is properly moisturized after cleansing.

To prep the face for the steamer, a moisturizing agent is gently massaged onto the skin.

A steamer helps open the pores.

Eye patches are then placed to protect the sensitive eye area from the heat of the steamer. The face is left under the steamer for about ten (10) minutes.

After the steamer, a vacuum is used to suck whatever debris that may have been stuck to unclog the pores.

Then, it is time for pricking to remove whiteheads and blackheads.

Bracing myself for pricking.
I asked the therapist if I could take a photo with her. She politely declined and told me it is prohibited. But she did a pretty good darn job!
Me after pricking and shedding tears of joy. Lol.
After pricking, a mesh is placed on the face. The laser then helps to close the pores.

It is recommended to avoid wetting the face with water or sweat in the next twelve (12) hours.

The whole procedure takes no more than forty-five minutes.

They also offer add-ons such as masks, whitening, peeling, laser and warts treatment:

Facial cleaning forms a vital part of my skin care routine. To me, keeping a clean and clear skin is personal hygiene. That is why I go for facial cleaning every month to address whiteheads and blackheads. For more serious skin concerns, I consult a certified dermatologist.
